ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Hans Dekkers (1946) worked for many years (until 2007) in primary education as a teacher and as director. He studied Dutch at the Leergangen in Tilburg. Hans Dekkers visited Rwanda in 2007, 2014 and 2017 and was introduced to life in present-day Rwanda and the consequences of the genocide against the Tutsi. In 2013 Mama Lambert stayed in the Netherlands for a few weeks and told her life story to Hans Dekkers. Between 2013 and 2015, he wrote down the life story of Mama Lambert (‘For those who do not believe in miracles’).

Today, Hans Dekkers is a volunteer with the Heemkundekring Paulus van Daesdonck and a secretary with the Foundation Restauratie Kerkgebouwen. For the above (and other) activities, he was awarded in 2019 a royal distinction (‘member’) in the Orde van Oranje-Nassau.
